Sunday stamp II - 2

For this week's 'toys' theme, although I have only gone back as far as 2003 for the year of issue, the subject is classic toys, so has a vintage flavour, and was titled, 'Transports of Delight'.

One question which immediately comes to mind is where are the toys for the girls?  Whilst I'm sure that many girls enjoyed the above the toys, it seems a particularly male-dominated theme.
Next question, did you have any of these?
We have the Dinky Ford Zephyr as an inherited toy.

As far as the stamps themselves are concerned, the only one of these I have 'used' (as opposed to 'mint') is the Meccano 1st class stamp.  I imagine the E value (intended for mail to Europe up to 20g) is the most difficult to find used.  The E value was introduced in 1998, but discontinued in 2004. From what I have read it should still be valid for mail to Europe (in much the same way that earlier 1st and 2nd class stamps can still be used), I shall have to try this.

Sunday stamps

For the Christmas theme, firstly a stamp which is not a Christmas issue, but a stamp issued in 1965 to commemorate 100 years of the Salvation Army who do so much good, especially at this time of year.

Next a selection of GB from the late 1960s (GB didn't issue Christmas stamps until 1966), the rocking horse stamp is from 1968 . . .

then the full set from 1969 . . .

Finally moving on 20 years, a snowy Christmas scene from the USA received in 1988.

Sunday stamps has a new host, Violet Sky, thanks Violet.

Sunday stamps

Art is such a good theme for stamps, so it wasn't difficult to find something for this week.  I chose the 1/6 value from the 1967 set of British Paintings, which is 'Children Coming out of School' by L S Lowry. (wiki link).  I remember Bob posting this set some time ago, and I hadn't been aware of the Lowry stamp at the time, so I was very pleased to go through an envelope with old stamps (pre-decimal) and find I had one.  It is probably the closest I will ever get to owning a Lowry :).

Next, I couldn't resist posting (even though it is much too recent to be normally included on my blog), this mini-sheet of London Underground posters, I think these came out in 2013.  I used this mini-sheet just a week or so ago and scanned it at the time.  I think these posters would have made very good stamps with one design per stamp rather than 3 on one as the posters are a bit too small like this.

Sunday stamps

Nefertiti, issued by Egypt in 1959 ( the United Arab Republic was the political union between Egypt and Syria from 1958 - 1961, though Egypt continued to use the 'name' 'United Arab Republic' until 1971, wiki link).

Nefertiti stamps are some of my favourites.
