Sunday stamps

For this week's theme I have the following royal children from my Egyptian stamps - firstly the stamp (one of a set of 4) issued in 1929 for the then Prince Farouk's birthday.

The stamp below shows Princess Ferial (the eldest daughter of King Farouk), the stamp with the overprint '1943' (also in Arabic) was re-issued for her 5th birthday.  The original stamp was issued in 1940 with a value of 5 mils plus a 5 mils donation to the Child Welfare Fund.

The next stamp is one of a set of 6 issued in 1946 for the Arab League Conference.  This value shows King Faisal II of Iraq (wiki link) who became King when he was 3 years old.  He was the last King of Iraq.

'a fine brood'

Although this postcard wasn't sent as an Easter card when it was used in 1907, I think it would have been a very nice Easter greetings card indeed.
The architecture of the chicken pens reminds me of the architecture of the Russian Pavilion at the 1937 Paris Exposition, as seen on the stamp here.

Happy Easter

Now when was the last time you saw a green and pink chicken?  :)

They look a bit too old to be school boys with boaters as part of their school uniform, perhaps they could be 'prefects'. On the other hand if the boaters suggest a 'day trip', then they don't look to be enjoying it very much.

Ilfracombe - Pleasure Grounds and Concert Hall

Postcard unused, but probably 1930s.
The new concert hall and Victoria Pleasure Grounds were built in the 1920s.
The website 'Britain from Above' has several aerial views of Ilfracombe, this one from 1932, has the Pleasure Ground just visible in the top right corner (but mainly off the picture) - oh well it gives the Pleasure Ground a wider context.  It looks like just a short walk from the Ilfracombe Hotel.

Sunday stamps

Years ago I remember being quite pleased to have added these DDR stamps from the 1970s to my collection. I scanned them recently thinking there'd be a theme which they suited. So it is that I'm posting them today and have only just taken any notice of the wording - Internationale Leipziger Rauchwarenauktion - which translates to 'Leipzig International Fur Auction'.  How awful!

I'm assuming that this postcard from Latvia in 1932 is a variation on a theme of April Fools' Day.
